A for Apple Chutney.....

I am having a ball of a time ........Guess what ? My friends are cooking for my blog !! Not just that I show up at their place the day they prepare the 'promised dishes' with the plea of clicking picts for the blog. Well I ain't any great photographer but there's no harm in pretending .... especially when your friends assume that you are one.
And what's the icing to the cake .... I get to taste (read as eat it and also pack some for hubby dear) it too :-)
A for Apple Chutney is from Deepika's Kitchen ........Do not get misguided by the pict that this chutney is only for kids.
It's also great for the kids at heart !
Preparation Time - 30 minutes
Serves - 3
Ingredients
Peeled and diced Apples - 4 cups
Sugar - 1 cup
Cumin Seeds - 1tsp
Fennel Seeds - 1 tsp
Crushed Black Pepper - 4 tsp
Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
Red Chillie Powder - 1 tsp
Cooking Oil - 3 tsp
Salt - 2 tsp (add per taste)
Method of Preparation
1 Add 5 cups of water to a vessel. Add the diced apples to it and let it simmer till the apple gets tender. Drain the water and keep boiled apples aside.
2 Again take 1/2 cup of water in a pan and add 1 cup of sugar to it. Keep stirring till the sugar dissolves and you get a sticky sugar solution (something like chasni).
3 Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, fennel seeds, crushed pepper, turmeric powder, red chillie powder and salt. Add the boiled apples and the sugar solution to it. Let it simmer till you see a jelly like consistency.
3 Cool and store in a jar. If refrigerated, the shelf life of this chutney is 3 weeks.
Serving Tips
Roll it in a paratha or roti. Tastes great. Also goes well with Puri.
Variation
If preparing for kids, you may reduce the amount of black pepper and red chillie powder to make it less spicier.
Try adding Raisins to this chutney, makes it even healthier for kids without compromising the taste.
Other Names
Cumin Seeds - Jeera, Fennel Seeds - Saunf
